Music
In 2016, I released my album What You Leave Behind dedicated to my dad who passed away a few years before. I had never written music before, but his death in 2013 prompted the writing of the song A Lazy Night in Brooklyn. From there, more songs followed, including Lonely Child and Last Kiss, and before I knew it, an album was born.
Most of the album falls in the style of artists such as Billy Joel and Elton John, floating between piano ballads and pop with the occasional acoustic guitar in between. All songs were written by me and all instruments played by me, with the exception of the electric guitar which was played by Peter van Rees at his Studio de Lat.
In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, I performed Live in Isolation which featured songs from the album as well as unreleased songs such as My Dear and Tokyo Again.
The pandemic was a restless time for everyone, and even those of us safe and sound at home were driven back to whatever creative pursuits were available. Again, all instruments were played by me, this time within the confines of a little living room studio.
In late 2021, after a trip to England, I wrote the single Things I Used to Know, released on July 28th exactly five years after What You Leave Behind.
